Theis bill allowing online renewal of farm plates heading to governor
Legislation sponsored by Sen. Lana Theis that would allow owners of vehicles with farming-related license plates to renew registrations online is headed to the governor after it was finalized by the Senate on Tuesday.
“While our farmers are reliable and trustworthy, the same cannot be said for in-person services offered under the current secretary of state,” said Theis, R-Brighton. “Farmers have precious little time to be wasting it at secretary of state offices to renew their farming-related license plates when they should be able to do so online like the rest of us. This bill will right that wrong and I am hopeful the governor will join the overwhelming number of lawmakers who voted for it by signing my bill into law as soon as she can.”
Senate Bill 220 would require the Michigan secretary of state to create an online renewal option for specialty farm plates, standard farm plates, logging plates and milk truck plates before Jan. 1, 2023.
