Theis officially files for 42nd District
Theis becomes first candidate for the open House seat to submit signatures
For Immediate Release
(Brighton, MI) On Monday December 23, Lana Theis submitted Nominating Petitions to place her name on the 2014 ballot for the Michigan’s 42nd District House of Representatives race, making her the first candidate in the 42nd District to submit signatures for that race. Bill Rogers, the current representative for the 42nd District, will not be seeking reelection due to term limits.
While candidates may place their name on the ballot by simply writing a check, Theis opted for the more time-consuming, but rewarding, process of gathering signatures. The choice is reflective of her personal philosophy that elections are about voters’ choice and not about a candidate’s money.
“In gathering signatures for my nominating petitions, I had the opportunity to speak directly with many people in our community”, said Theis. “I began my listening tour in the fall, knocking on doors, attending community events and interacting with many people in Livingston County. Gathering signatures instead of writing a check is a natural extension of a community focused campaign and a continuing process of listening to people and hearing what their concerns are.”
Theis’ hands-on approach to campaigning is a testament to her continued commitment to the citizens at a grassroots level.
The voters who signed Theis’ petitions come from diverse backgrounds, including business owners, community and church leaders, and hundreds of other Livingston County citizens. Theis is enthusiastic about the broad base of support that she is able to rally. This speaks to her reputation for listening to, and connecting with, all her constituents.
Theis is continuing the hard work she began in 2005, when she blocked a local tree ordinance from creating significant property owner expense without the intended benefit. Theis has always been willing to roll up her sleeves and do the hard work. She will continue to demonstrate that throughout the campaign and after her election.
